Wandering Whites RV

About us

Hello and welcome.  We are the Wandering Whites, Barry and Jennifer, travelling in our Open Range 5th wheel RV.

I have worked on farms, as a budding cabinet maker, in construction, as a sales rep (poorly), and lastly a police officer.  I recently retired after 28 years in policing.

Jennifer always knew she wanted to be a nurse and became one.  After 32 years of nursing, including working in a trauma centre, Public Health, Long Term Care, and obtaining her Masters in Nursing she retired.  She now sews, quilts, works alongside of me building our 2-car garage and renovating our house.

Picking up our new trailer

Several years ago, almost 2 decades back, we started travelling within Ontario, Canada by car.  We have made several trips to the Caribbean, white water rafted, bought and sold a cottage, and taken several weekend getaways, one as far as Whistler, British Columbia. Our first multi-day trip was a drive through south-western Ontario ending in Niagara-on-the-Lake before heading home.  Twenty minutes after starting on our way we drove through a light rain shower.  The sky was mostly clear and thankfully it didn’t last as the first swipe of the wipers resulted in one of them flying off to the side of the road.   We planned on cycling and camping each day and loaded our little car with camping gear.  We ended up staying in Bed and Breakfasts each day and rode our bicycles twice.  Other than the beauty of Niagara-on-the-Lake the most memorable location was a B&B near West Montrose, www.oldebridgeplace.com.  It is a century farmhouse overlooking the river and the last remaining covered bridge in Ontario.  The B&B is now in a different building but the river and bridge is still there.

That week modified our travel dreams and we started scouring Ontario B&B sites, especially www.bbcanada.com for places to stay.  We eventually used our weekend trips to discover small towns,  away from Toronto, where we would like to retire.  In 2012 we found our place in South Western Ontario on the North shore of Lake Erie. From there we plan to wander the national and provincial/state parks of Canada and United States.
